Ford Drive One 4 UR School

Help raise up to $6,000 for the schools through the Brownsburg Education Foundation.

Take a test drive (about 7 to 10 minutes) and Bill Estes Ford will donate $20.00 to the BEF for student scholarships and teacher grants!

There is no obligation by the "test driver" to listen to a sales pitch; however, each driver must complete a waiver, some personal information, and a brief survey.  The total investment of time by the test driver is approximately 20 mins from registration through the paper survey at the end.  Drivers must be 18 years or older, one per household, up to 300 people.  Ford has incentive door prizes, and there are other incentives we could do to get people to participate, as well.

WHEN:  Saturday, November 7 from 9 am - 5 pm

WHERE:  Brownsburg High School Senior Academy

WHO:  We need volunteers to help staff the event.  We need the donation of items for “goodie bags” that each test driver will receive.  We need restaurants or bakeries to donate food.

Are you interested in volunteering or donating?  Please contact Tammy Wiley at tvwiley@procam-inc.com or 852-5734.

Flu Prevention Seminar at The Hearth at Prestwick

The flu or not the flu: that is the question!  With all the hype about the different kinds of flu this season, it’s hard to know where to turn for the right information.

Flu shots are offered on every street corner, and yet some medical offices and healthcare facilities cannot get the flu serum to administer to their patients.  Whether you are one of the lucky ones who have already gotten your flu shot, or one who has not, you still want the latest scoop on the latest flu.  You can get information on flu prevention at The Hearth at Prestwick on Tuesday evening, November 3rd at 7:00 p.m.

Andi Greathouse, a representative from Home Health Care Solutions and HTS Therapy, will offer tips on avoiding this malady and keeping your lifestyle on track.  Ms. Greathouse will remind attendees of long standing good health practices and give good information on some new things to think about.

Light snacks will be offered, after this short presentation and time for questions.

The Hearth at Prestwick is a senior community located just west of Avon on Rockville Road, 1.5 miles west of SR. 267.  To register, or for more information, call The Hearth at 745-2766.

The Brownsburg High School DECA chapter will be hosting the District 8 Career Development Conference (DCDC) on Wednesday, January 13, 2010.  DECA, a co-curriculum club for marketing students, give students the opportunity to exhibit the competencies for success in marketing careers via marketing competitions.  These include tests, presentations, and role-playing.  Students compete against other school’s students for the chance to advance to State competition, from where they can continue to International competition to be held in Louisville, KY in May.

In order to host the DCDC, BHS seeks the assistance of local businesses.  Judges are needed for these contests, up to 40 to 50 required.  Any local chamber business member who would like to participate can contact BHS DECA.  Judging would start around 3:30pm and should be over for most events by 6:00pm.  Snacks and drinks are provided!  Complete instructions are provided for judges.  Whenever possible, each event will have a minimum of two judges.

For more information or to commit to this activity, contact Steve Bennett, BHS DECA advisor at 852-2258, extension 2072.  Email is sbennett@brownsburg.k12.in.us.

*GROUND SCHOOL BEGINS JANUARY 5.  HCA will run a 12 week course, meeting once a week from 6pm-9pm in Danville. This course is designed to get the student to not only pass the FAA written exam, but to also begin the process of becoming the best pilot they can be.  Cost will be $259.  Call or email for the details.

*GIFT CERTIFICATES.  Check out our website when it’s time to do your Christmas shopping.  You will be able to order gift certificates on-line.  The Discovery Flight makes a memorable stocking stuffer for anyone.

*FINANCING.  We have had inquiries about the financing of flight training.  Sallie Mae and Bank of America had programs in place for this….now they don’t.  Both have pulled back on lending in a number of areas, including flight lessons.  A company still committed to pilot training lending is Pilot Finance out of Illinois.  To learn more, go to www.pilotfinance.com
